It was first introduced in a whitepaper titled 'Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System' in 2008. The first block of the Bitcoin blockchain, also known as the Genesis Block, was mined in January 2009. Since then, cryptocurrency has evolved and numerous other cryptocurrencies have been created.
