You can use popular cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum with Metamask, as well as many other altcoins. Simply add the desired cryptocurrency to your Metamask wallet by importing the corresponding wallet address or private key, and you'll be able to send, receive, and manage that cryptocurrency within the Metamask interface.

However, it's important to note that Metamask is not limited to just these two cryptocurrencies. It supports a variety of ERC-20 tokens, which are tokens built on the Ethereum blockchain. So, if you're interested in using other cryptocurrencies, make sure to check if they are ERC-20 tokens and if they are supported by Metamask.
