The Quantum Resistant Ledger (QRL) is a blockchain network that is fully resistant to quantum attacks. It uses PQ-CRYPTO recommended/IETF standardized cryptography and employs a hash-based eXtended Merkle Tree Signature Scheme (XMSS) instead of the vulnerable ECDSA. Unlike other blockchain projects, the QRL offers enhanced security through a suite of applications and a development ecosystem, enabling users to effortlessly build blockchain applications on its provably quantum resistant network.

Information

What is the Quantum Resistant Ledger (QRL) project?

The Quantum Resistant Ledger (QRL) project aims to achieve full post-quantum security using PQ-CRYPTO recommended cryptography. It launched the world's first fully post-quantum secure blockchain ledger project with the QRL Mainnet in June 2018. Instead of ECDSA, the QRL utilizes a hash-based one-time extended Merkle tree signature scheme (XMSS). The project roadmap includes transitioning from proof-of-work block selection to proof-of-stake with a signed iterative hash chain reveal scheme. Transactions in the QRL have larger sizes (2.8kb per tx, binary) due to hash-based signatures, longer keypair generation times, and the need to record the state of transactions. However, a single address can be used for signing numerous transactions. The QRL provides a post-quantum secure cryptocurrency, and its ecosystem allows for the easy development of blockchain applications on a provably quantum resistant foundation.
