pNetwork is an open-source multi-chain routing protocol that enables interoperability between independent blockchains. It allows for the creation of "wrapped" tokens called pTokens, which maintain a 1-to-1 peg between the native blockchain and the host blockchain (e.g. wrapping Bitcoins to operate on the Ethereum blockchain). The pNetwork Token (PNT) serves as the governance token for the pNetwork DAO, the staking currency for pNetwork nodes, and the reward currency for node services.

The project, originally called pTokens, was launched in late 2019 to connect multiple blockchains and assets. The first cross-chain bridging solution, connecting Bitcoin and Ethereum, went live on March 5th, 2020. Since then, pNetwork has expanded its cross-chain connections to enable the movement of assets, NFTs, and data across ecosystems. It currently powers connections across over 15 networks, including different blockchain environments and Ethereum scaling networks. The protocol has also evolved to become more decentralized.

With the release of pNetwork V2, pTokens are now fungible across chains, allowing users to move pTokens directly between any supported chains without returning to the native blockchain. Additionally, the protocol supports cross-chain transfers, smart contract interactions, and the movement of NFTs. To date, the protocol has processed transactions worth over 1 billion in value.
