Avalanche is a platform that enables the launch of decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, facilitates trading of financial assets, and offers various services. Avalanche stands out by providing decentralized asset trading that is accessible to anyone and offers subsecond transaction confirmations. The platform aims to bring together the fragmented world of asset trading under one roof, allowing barrier-free access. Developers can create and release various entities, including blockchains and digital representations of assets, and enable trading based on specific parameters, such as compliance regulations in different jurisdictions. The AVAX token serves as the in-house payment method for Avalanche, used for transaction fees, incentives, and other purposes. Users can also earn passive income by staking their AVAX coins on the network.

The maximum capped supply of AVAX is 720,000,000 (720 million) tokens. Half of this supply was included in the genesis block. The remaining half will be released according to an emission curve specified in the Avalanche whitepaper. Unlike Bitcoin, the AVAX release rate can be changed through community consensus, but the supply cap remains fixed. Transaction fees on the Avalanche network are burned to increase token scarcity, which is offset by the minting of new coins. Transaction fees vary depending on the type of operation performed on the Avalanche network.

Avalanche utilizes a proof-of-stake (PoS) protocol, which incentivizes users to stake their coins. While PoS networks have faced criticism for their low attack cost, Avalanche addresses this concern by implementing governance changes that make it nearly impossible for an attacker to gain covert consensus.
